I am super thankful for the awesomeness that is MEDITATION!
I have been meditating unknowingly (and at times incorrectly) for years but intentionally for about three years. Being stressed and not adequately managing that stress, contributed to elevated blood pressure, headaches and bouts of anxious moments which led me to seek relief. Permanent relief. For years I had relied heavily on sprints for stress elimination; however, that method was not always easily assessable. It is not easy to jump up from my desk during the work day and run sprints lol. So finding a way to ease my mind and calm my emotions was essential.
My first thoughts of meditation was what is this woo-woo stuff / how in the world am I going to be able to sit still and be quiet / I have too much going on to meditate / how is this going to help me. All of this filled my mind, yet I figured it would not hurt to give it a try.
Meditation is essentially the art of focusing your attention. Whether you focus on your breath, a mantra (or scripture) or use visualization; meditation is simply being intentional with your focus. I have explored many methods of meditation finding some more helpful (at certain times) than others. To begin, it was important to me to learn and stick with the basics, breathing.
In focusing on my breath those questions and concerns I mentioned earlier no longer mattered, all that was important to me was the breath. I set simple goals for myself – I wasn’t trying to sit for an hour, I just wanted to master five breaths lol. Those five breaths turned into five minutes and so on… Diffusing essential oils, such as lavender, frankincense, or Young Living’s Stress Away, Grounding, and Peace and Calming have been an added layer of relaxation during my meditation. In addition, I incorporate simple yoga poses to increase energy flow during this focused time.
My health and well-being have always been important to me but I have not always known what that looks like or even how to attain it. So… I have been on a journey of discovery. Discovering more about who I am and how I can evolve into my best self. Committing to meditation has contributed to making this journey a tad easier or at least a little more manageable.
Do you meditate? Would you like to but don’t know where to start? Drop me a comment or reserve some time with me and let me guide you through meditation. It would be my pleasure ?
