When you are preparing for traveling out of the country there are certain considerations you must account for.  This post is not saying the items I have chosen are the exact items you should choose when you travel but I will attempt to do the following with my personal list:

  1. Show pics of each item
  2. Give the reason why I chose it
  3. Link to the item to purchase

This series is not all of the items in totality but will includes the major items I had to purchase to make this journey a little easier, safer, and cheaper.  First let’s set the scene for the first item.

Travel Arrangements

The first thing you have to take into account is how you are traveling.  Meaning plane, train, boat, bus, automobile, and ride sharing.

While we are traveling we will be utilizing majority of the aforementioned methods of travel, but all require you to think about your budget.  It can get very expensive, very fast, when you are taking certain airlines and using ride sharing if you have a lot of luggage.  For example, if you are flying on United you are allowed two carry-on bags:

  • One personal item – 9 inches x 10 inches x 17 inches (22 cm x 25 cm x 43 cm)
  • One carry-on item – 9 inches x 14 inches x 22 inches (22 cm x 35 cm x 56 cm)

If you are flying on a Basic Economy ticket you can only take just one personal item, no larger carry-on. This means you will have to pack light and make the most out of the space you have.

Really quick, I want to touch on checked bags.  There is a lot of rules and requirements in this area but I really want to talk about the pricing on this just for knowledge of how expensive it can get.

  1. 1st checked bag $25
  2. 2nd checked bag $40

If you are traveling on a United Economy ticket your checked bag can not weigh no more than 50 lbs an cannot be bigger than 62 inches including handles and wheels.  I am giving this information from United just as a starting resource but make sure you take a look at your airline of choice before arriving at the airport.

Ride-sharing

When you have a lot of bags and traveling with a family you will definitely have to think about how you are going to get around once you land at your destination.  Usually ride-sharing apps can be pulled up and are readily available and cheaper than a taxi. But back to the luggage, you will not be able to get a standard Uber X and think you will fit a family of 5 with luggage and the drive in the car, which means you will have to get an Uber XL – basically it means more money.

These are the travel arrangements you must look at from the start of your planning.

This brings me to my first item …

Hard Shell Spinner Wheels Carry-On Suitcase

In an attempt to not break the budget with suitcases for a family of 5 and fit within carry-on standards so we will not have to check that many bags went for the item below.

Note: If you are going on a trip or even an overnight stay and need a nice travel suitcase for a low price and a great value use my link below.

I love to hear your comments below about this first post in this series.  Let me know if you have any questions, as I have been really looking into all this information.  I just didn’t want the post to be super long so I am breaking it up into a series of posts.

My next post will be about my personal item book bag – you are definitely going to want to see this book bag.  I absolutely think it was a great buy.
